How to turn a Word document into a PDF

October 20, 2026 · 1 min read

Send a Word file and you never quite know what the other person will see: different fonts, shifted tables, a résumé that spills onto a third page. A PDF looks the same everywhere, on any device, in any reader. That is why applications, invoices and anything you want to look right should go as a PDF.

Option 1: from Word itself

If you have Word, you already have a PDF converter. Choose File, then Save As (or Save a Copy), and pick PDF as the file type. On a Mac, File → Save As → File Format: PDF does the same. This is often the best option, because Word uses your exact fonts.

Option 2: from Google Docs or Pages

In Google Docs, choose File → Download → PDF Document. In Apple Pages, File → Export To → PDF. Both are free and give clean results.

Option 3: convert it online

Without Word, on someone else's computer, or with an old .doc file, use Word to PDF: drop in the .doc or .docx and download the PDF, with layout, fonts and images preserved.

Be aware that this is one of the few Filezuma tools that can't run in your browser: converting Word files needs office software, so the file is sent to our converter and deleted as soon as the conversion is done. It is free for a few conversions a day, more with a free account, and unlimited with Pro.

Spreadsheets and slides too

The same applies to Excel to PDF, which handles multiple sheets, page breaks and print areas, and PowerPoint to PDF, with one slide per page.

Tip: if the PDF comes out larger than you'd like because of photos in the document, run it through Compress PDF afterwards.

Ready to try it? It takes a minute.
