Frequently asked
What can I put in a header or footer?+
Any text, plus placeholders filled in on each page: {page} and {pages} for "Page 3 of 12", {date} for today's date, {file} for the file name and {bates} for a Bates number. You can use all six positions at once.
Does it work on pages that are turned sideways?+
Yes. Text is placed by how each page looks when you read it, so landscape and rotated pages get their header at the top, the right way up.
Can I skip the cover page?+
Yes. "Leave out the first pages" skips as many as you set, and page numbering starts after them.
Can it do Bates numbering?+
Yes: add {bates} anywhere and set the prefix, first number and digits. Across several files the numbers run on, and you get a Bates index too. The Bates numbering page opens with this set up.
Are my files uploaded?+
No. The text is written into the PDFs inside your browser.
Is Header & footer free to use?+
Yes. Header & footer is free and unlimited, with no account and no watermark added to your document.
Are my files uploaded to a server?+
No. Header & footer runs entirely inside your browser, so the document never leaves your device.
Which browsers does it work in?+
Any current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, on desktop, tablet and phone.
